I Cant Sleep: Dilemmas and How I Met Your Mother

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Seriously speaking - this not-sleeping-early thing is really bad for the skin (not to mention the bowels). But I just cant get down to it. Im half-desperate for a bottle of alcohol and/or a cudgel so I can conk myself to sleep. Grr.

How I Met Your Mother is supposed to be funny! In case you are wondering, its a sitcom I’m hooked on right (although I have no intention of meeting any one’s mom) and it just took a serious close-to-the-heart twist. Now its melodramatic situational comedy. I dont know whether to laugh or cry *ponder*

Sorry for the weird trains of thoughts trailing across this blog entry. Its 4am in the morning and minds don’t work right when its this early. *banghead* Nope, still aint working. Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHIN! Hope you had a majorly good one - which you look like you did *hug*

Lastly, did you know that you could….make your Sim have a better life then you? Its irony on top of insult, really *pout* AND…I should really just throw my phone away, just so I would stop having the urge to message. Sigh, so going to get eye bags on top of that stupid zit I got. Sorry, being vain. Toodles!

The Actor’s Right To Play & Other Things

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

OK…just a slight ramble about the craft before I move on to rubbish :P I realise that acting is mainly about two things - empathy & creativity. Empathy is important to an actor’s process - to be open to emotion and circumstance, observant and sensitive to idiosyncracies and personal choices. It is by means of understanding and seeing their choices as one’s own that a sketch of a character is borne. Creativity is imperative as well; its kinda hard to build a character based on a couple of words and a few stage directions. You need to be able to play, have loads of imagination and also be adventurous in your choices. Its all about filling in the gaps and creating layers.

These two things cant work without each other. Having imagination alone is never enough to breathe a character to life; neither is having good observation. There has to be a balance between grounding oneself in a reference or observed trait, and playing around with choices and reactions. Its the combination of both (of course, in addition to the understanding of the text) that melds the actor with his role. Both are as much the actor’s right as it is their duty. Without one or the other, there will always be something lacking in the character.

So.. in other words, not only do I have to study and observe and immerse myself in a world alien to me, but I also have to use my observations and explore different ways of reacting to those situations. Its like freaking Chemistry, and I cant seem to get it right! *stranglebanghead* Oh well. *bite nails*

MOVING ON…RUBBISH!!

You Are Special rehearsals are coming along fine..with really fun dance and song numbers. Ive never had so much fun doing workshops and improvs :) And doing children’s theatre is impossibly tiring *laf* But I love it! Mad Forest rehearsals, on the other hand, are what inspired me to write the above post. So you should know how hard it is to me…But still, I am grateful for the time given to me to explore and understand the character(s). *lalalalaGRIN*

*shake booty* "HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER" ROCKS!!!
