One of things I learnt climbing those bloody volcanoes in Bali?
Other then the fact that you get loads of nose boogers from all that dust…
Is that it is often the hardest thing to keep going when your goal is not in sight.
Now, the first volcano (Agung). We were at it for about 8 hours or so, banging around in the dark and climbing roots and branches. Wasn’t easy…I could not even see the top even though it was just 400 vertical meters away. Dammit, that was the hardest thing to do..keep going when it everything is against you. I was tempted to give up when everyone else just died halfway..just because it seemed it would never end. But the summit was always there and it was not going to move.
#2 was Batur. It seemed easy because we could see the top from far off. I was basically just buzzing away because it was not dark, not cold and had no nasty tree roots threatening to whack me off the face of the earth. No thoughts of giving up or cussing (of course if you saw the pilot i had to complain "for sake of a good story"). Everytime i looked up, the top was there and i was just inching closer and closer. I was so determined to reach it , i did. No biggie.
Point being; Just because you cant see your goal, doesnt mean its not there for you to take. If you dont see it, keep moving till you do. And when you do, whack like crazy until you reach it. OK!!??

Hello, I am back from the Bali trip! Alive and kicking, I’m happy to report…HELLO! *wave* Many of you have been asking "Whats up with me?"
